I was born in 1931 in Buffalo, New York. I attended George School, Newtown, Pennsylvania, (class of '49) and the Art Institute of Buffalo for one semester before enlisting in the United States Army in 1950. I saw combat in the Korean Conflict and received a Purple Heart for wounds received in the battle of Heartbreak Ridge.

Returning from the service, I attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts from 1952 to 1955 and again from 1959 to 1960. In 1955 I was awarded the Louis S. Ware Memorial Scholarship by the Academy and the Sonnenschein Fund purchased one of my paintings for the Academy's collection.

I continued to paint and make prints until the early 1970's while working in the advertising and commercial art fields. I exhibited locally in Philadelphia, in juried shows at the Pennsylvania Academy and the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

In 1972, I entered the Philadelphia College of Art, (now the University of the Arts) and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1974. In 1978 I received a law degree (Juris Doctor) from Temple Law School.

In 1978 my wife, Laura M. Rizio, Esq., and I started the law firm of Rizio and Hamilton, PC that specialized in personal injury law. While acting as the chief litigator for the firm I continued to make prints and paintings.

Early on I worked in an impressionistic/expressionist style which later morphed into a cubist/expressionist style.

In 2008 I moved to color field paintings inspired by landscapes as well as cubist interior and still life paintings. If asked to describe what my work is about, I would have to say:

If words were adequate to describe a painting, or the process of making it, the painting would be superfluous. Words can only hint at what an artist is trying to do. My work is an attempt to record what I see in my environment arranged in a structured composition, analogous to the composition of a classical piece of music. It is meant to evoke a reaction, not to record.
